'Heroes' Finds Another Ratings Low

If Tim Kring is ready to make some changes to the format of "Heroes" to bring viewers back, he better hope there's a show to do it with.

The NBC series earned a 4.6 rating/7 share, according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research, another record in "Heroes'" smallest audience book. With that rating, "Heroes" beat only "Prison Break" on Fox and "One Tree Hill" on The CW, and was murdered by "Dancing With the Stars" and "Samantha Who" on ABC, and CBS' comedy block.

That audience is 2 percent off the previous series low "Heroes" earned last week, and is nearly 25 percent off its season premiere audience, which already was considered low compared to its second season.

The only highlight for "Heroes" is that it's still NBC's most-watched program on Mondays. Its audience grew 15 percent over "Chuck," which earned a 4.0/6, according to Zap2it, and "My Own Worst Enemy" -- which NBC has already canceled -- lost 43 percent of "Heroes" audience.

"Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" seems to have found its ratings groove for Fox, but it's still not anywhere near as high as it should be to ensure a life into the third season. "Sarah Connor" earned a 3.4/5, finishing ahead of only "Gossip Girl" on The CW. The Fox series audience did grow more than 6 percent from its previous new episode, but it's still off 17 percent from its season premiere, which was below the ratings of its first season that almost had it cancelled then.

On Tuesday, "Fringe" stayed on course for Fox, earning a 5.7/8, up 7.5 percent from the week before, but still losing a significant portion of its lead-in audience from "House," this time nearly 28 percent.

Although it had only "Heroes" to really guide it, NBC barely finished ahead of Fox for third place on Monday with a 3.7/6. Fox finished with a 3.5/5. Fox moved into third place on Tuesday with a 6.8/10, more because of "House" than anything else.

Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that includes both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
