Fuller Awaiting Word On 'Pushing Daisies'

The executive producer and creator of ABC?s whimsical drama ?Pushing Daisies? is starting to get nervous. Reasonably so ? rumors of cancellation are plaguing his show.

"Every day we?re hearing that we?re canceled and then we hear that we?re not," Fuller told the Los Angeles Times. "It?s all rumors. Nothing official at all. We?re in radio-silence land."

Despite the rumors spirits have remained strong on the set, Fuller said.

"It's infectious, and we're hoping ABC gets infected by that dedication," he said.

Despite taking home three of its 15 Emmy nominations, the show's second season ratings have been down. The writer?s strike has been blamed by some for "Pushing Daisies?" tough first season ? only nine of the scripted 22 episodes of the show were ever filmed.

This season, ABC isn?t the only network having trouble finding and keeping an audience. Due in part to the presidential election, many networks are having to rework their schedules.

Along with ABC, NBC looks to be making some changes as well. Christian Slater?s new drama "My Own Worst Enemy" and Brooke Shields? returning show "Lipstick Jungle" both have halted production and are awaiting word on their fate.

In a surprising move, NBC did renew ?Knight Rider? despite low ratings, but the network is planning a retool and a cast purge.

Fox canceled "Do Not Disturb" earlier this year. Genre fans will recognize its main character played by Jerry O'Connell, of ?Sliders? fame.

So what will be next for ?Pushing Daisies?? According to Fuller, it doesn?t seem likely that any more episodes will be made this year.

?There?s such a dedication with the cast and crew,? Fuller said, adding that he hopes ABC will "short-order" the next season, or order 13 episodes of the normal 22. Some shows have seen success with this ? for example, ?Lost.?

In the meantime, "Pushing Daisies" airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
