No 'Star Trek XI' Trailer On Some James Bond Prints

Going to see a midnight showing when you have to go to work the next morning is probably not the best use of many people's time. But that happened quite a bit early Friday morning across the United States as Trekkies flocked to midnight showings of the new James Bond film "Quantum of Solace" to get their first real look at the new "Star Trek" film.

Some moviegoers, however, went home disappointed, not by what they saw ... but what they didn't see.

While Paramount Pictures has been hyping the attachment of "Star Trek" trailers to "Quantum of Solace," only about three-fourths of the prints delivered to theaters have the trailer attached. It was the luck of the draw for many people whether they chose the theater that had the trailer attached or didn't.

It's not clear why only some of the "Quantum of Solace" prints have the trailer while others do not. However, many theaters have the ability to remove trailers from prints if they are not from the same studio, or there isn't a mandatory order to include the trailer. "Quantum of Solace" was produced by MGM while "Star Trek" is being produced by Paramount.

At a midnight showing of "Quantum of Solace" in Tampa, Florida, where the trailer was not attached, a theater employee told Airlock Alpha in an unofficial capacity that of the four prints it received of the James Bond film, only three of them had the trailer. The employee suggested that people wanting to see the trailer should ask customer service at the theater or the box office what "trailer pack" is attached to the specific film they are seeing to ensure that the "Star Trek XI" trailer is included.

Some might say that's a good practice to get into anyway when seeing movies more for a specific trailer than the film itself. Many fans complained that some prints of the Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" didn't have a "Watchmen" trailer attached, despite Warner Bros.' statements it would be there.

"Many theater owners are mixing and matching which trailers they shove in front of 'Quantum,'" said Josh Tyler of Cinema Blend. "This is particularly important since Paramount has refused to release the trailer online. They're holding it gripped tight in their fists until Monday, which means plenty of people are out there heading to see the latest Bond movie in part of in full because they can't wait to see the trailer."

"Star Trek XI" premieres May 8.
