Looks like "Smallville" and "Supernatural" may have some actual competition this week for the bottom of the genre ratings pack.
"Knight Rider" pulled in by far its smallest audience ever, earning a 3.3 rating/5 share, according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research. That rating was 25 percent off its 4.4/7 last week, and its audience was just 3 percent higher than "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" this week.
The plunge was so deep for "Knight Rider," the show's season average actually fell from a 4.5 rating to a 4.3 rating in just one week, while its Stability Index Rating -- where Airlock Alpha compares the average overnight rating against its highest overnight rating -- slipped below the 90 percentile to an 87.8. Only "Fringe" and "Life On Mars" on ABC have a slower Stability Index Rating, and both were caused by spikes in ratings unlike "Knight Rider's" crater.
"Knight Rider" did have more competition than normal. Election night moved the results show of "Dancing With the Stars" to Wednesday in the timeslot normally occupied by the low-rated "Pushing Daisies," earning a 10.2/16, according to Zap2it, a 155 percent increase over "Pushing Daisies" the previous week.
"Knight Rider" also had to face the first new episode of "Bones" on Fox in more than a month, which drew a 6.2/10, well above its 5.7/10 average so far this season.
"Knight Rider" ended up NBC's lowest-rated show for Wednesday, being topped even by "Life" in the 9 p.m. hour.
For the night, NBC finished fourth with a 4.1/7, well behind CBS' first-place finish of 7.2/11.
Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that includes both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
