'Andromeda' beat by 'Mutant X'
First syndicated ratings of new season released
"Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda" spent a good part of last year as the number one action hour, but the season premire, "The Widening Gyre," took a hit in the first week of first-run Nielsen syndication ratings as Tribune Entertainment's lawsuit-laden sister show, "Mutant X," took over the top spot for its series premiere.
"Andromeda" scored a 3.2 rating, slipping just behind Mutant X's 3.3, according to Mediaweek. However, the finishing was still strong enough for No. 2 in the drama category finishing ahead of "Stargate SG-1" (2.6) and "Earth: Final Conflict" (2.1).
Overall, "Andromeda" came in third, with both it and "Mutant X" finishing behind "Entertainment Tonight Weekend," which scored a 4.0.
Mediaweek reports that "The Widening Gyre" ratings were up 28 percent from the previous week's rerun of "It Hour Come Round At Last," but remains 26 percent down from the 4.3 rating the series premire, "Under the Night," scored last year.
SlipstreamWeb is reporting that some of "Mutant X's" numbers may have been "stolen" from "Andromeda," since some syndicated markets aired "Mutant X" in "Andromeda's" old time slot.
