SciFriday: Reading Your Letters ... Well, Not Really
I'm taking an extended weekend this weekend because I haven't had one since ... well, last week.
So with that, I decided to open up the mailbox and answer some e-mails. I answered one from Al Medard on SyFy Radio this past Wednesday, but trust me, I have hundreds more.
I usually don't write into things, but I am very perplexed by something. I am a huge 'Doctor Who' fan, which is odd, because I had to be forced to watch it. When I did watch it, it was simply spectacular.
I like all of 'Doctor Who's' army and companions and whatever else he came across.
Then came 'Torchwood.' 'Torchwood had a great concept and the potential to be something great. It still does. However, I understand that it's supposed to be the grown up version of 'Doctor Who,' but it's getting a little silly. I'm actually getting pretty sick of the fact that it constantly attempts to shock its viewers whether it goes with the plot or not.
Take Gwen for instance. Happily in a relationship with a great guy. Now I believed the lesbian kiss in the second episode because the alien induced it. However, after that, things got crazy. She was then involved with her co-worker, Owen, which did not click at all. Then Toshiko is suddenly into women as well, then she's not and she's in love with some guy they defrost once a year. Then you have Ianto, who is madly in love with this girl then switches side and is in love with Jack.
I would rather see them just concentrate on a good story and reach the potential that series could. I am still halfway through the second season, but I have to admit, I am struggling to get through it.

Kelley, I definitely understand where you are coming from on this, and while I don't want people to associate non-heterosexuality with promiscuity, but one of the things Russell T. Davies wanted to portray from my understanding is that you can't box sexuality. Just because we are raised to like the opposite sex with a growing awareness and acceptance that we don't have to be like just the opposite sex, that people can't be put into one category or another.
True open-mindedness is not feeling like you have to box attraction, that you can only like men or like women, instead that you treat everyone differently, and can be attracted to people for a variety of reasons.
For Gwen, from what I saw, the whole idea of keeping her job away from her husband and having no one to vent to in a more intimate setting led her to Owen, and the reason why that relationship didn't work is because it's a relationship set up for all the wrong reasons.
That's the way life really works, doesn't it?
Dear Mike,
Why do you bother continuing to do this Web site? I own you man, I own you.

Yes you do ... but you just wait, Mr. TV Addict. Someday you'll screw up, and you'll be crawling back begging for my forgiveness ... and I will just simply cross my arms and shake my head.
Then again, screwing up will probably just make you even more popular, and make me look more like a loser.
