'Lost' Wins Night For ABC Despite Finale Ratings Decline
An evening of "Lost" helped ABC win the ratings battle for Thursday, May 29, even though the show's ratings were down from last year, according to Zap2it.com.
The Alphabet Network brought in a 6.4 rating/11 share for the night, ahead of second-place Fox who attracted a 5.9/10 viewership. CBS came in third, followed by NBC and The CW. ABC also won the coveted adult 18-49 demographic with a 4.0 rating.
A rerun of "There's No Place Like Home: Part 2," which aired two weeks ago, landed in second place at 8 p.m. with a 4.5/8 rating, following Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance," which garnered a 5.8/10.
"Part 2" won the 9 p.m. hour with a 7.1/12, beating "Dance," which increased to a 6.0/10.
At 10 p.m., "Lost" again took the hour, this time with a 7.6/13. The bad news is that these numbers, an average of 12.2 million viewers, were a drop from last year's ratings of 13.8 million. Also, last year's finale took on a portion of the finale episode of Fox's "American Idol" while this year the show was against reruns.
Fans of "Lost" will have to wait a long time for new episodes to air again since ABC is currently planning to bring the show back as a mid-season replacement, likely to begin in early 2009.
Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that includes both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
