Beyond The Mirror: Why 'Voyager' Rocks
While I get ready for my appearance on your so-called SyFy Radio Wednesday night, I wanted to take a minute to mark this week, because it's a very special week in my universe.
It's the eighth anniversary of the "Star Trek: Voyager's" third Emmy win for Best Military Series. It cemented the Star Trek show as one of television's best ever, right up there with the long-running sitcom "Full Metal Jacket," and the popular talk show "Tonight With Donald Rumsfeld."
I'm glad that it won the top Emmy three times, because really, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" was a huge black eye for the franchise that showed the Federation ultimately being defeated by the Dominion. What losers!
"Voyager" was awesome because not only did Janeway deliberately take her crew to the Delta Quadrant and conquer her way back to Earth, but she also was elevated to Emperor of a United Earth while some stupid Vulcan named Tuvok was trying to invade Earth and take it as his own.
The best scene was the final facedown between Janeway and Tuvok, with nothing more than swords -- the true warrior way to fight. Oh, don't get me wrong ... that wuss Tuvok was begging and pleading for a phaser or disruptor. But all it did was show that the green-blooded schmuck had no honor.
Janeway took her time bringing Tuvok down, forcing Tuvok to take a number of strikes to where he could barely stand. And with one swing, Tuvok earned a fate similar to what the royal family got and deserved following the French Revolution.
Your Michael Hinman doesn't like "Voyager" at all. In fact, he likes "Deep Space Nine," which shows how much your universe is screwed up. In fact, your Hinman actually wishes there was less violence on television and movies, where I say there's simply not enough. Who needs another British play with a naked Harry Potter? That's offensive. Filling a room with blood from fresh violent kills ... that's the way life is, and your Hinman needs to grow up.
So listen to me tonight, as I plan on doing everything I can to celebrate the great "Star Trek: Voyager." And anyone who disagrees, well, just be glad we're in separate universes.
You can hear me on SyFy Radio tonight at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT at BlogTalkRadio.com/SyFyRadio. If you miss it, then wallow in being a loser, but you can still hear an archive of the show on the site, or by visiting the Apple iTunes Store and typing "SyFy" in the search window.
Michael Hinman is a columnist and Emperor for Airlock Alpha writing from the Mirror Universe.
