'Moonlight' Returns With Stable Numbers

"Moonlight" pretty much picked up where it left off Friday night as a show that is maintaining its stable ratings despite being CBS' lowest-rated program.

But that hasn't stopped the vampire drama from being the best show in the 9 p.m. hour with a 5.0 rating/9 share, according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research. That was enough to slip past "Dateline" on NBC, which had a 4.8/9, and the Fox movie "13 Going on 30," which barely beat programming on The CW.

That's down nearly 4 percent from the last "Moonlight" episode that aired pre-writers strike, but still is less than 14 percent off from its premiere.

"Moonlight" lost about 12 percent of its "Ghost Whisperer" lead-in, which also led its hour with a 5.7/11, according to Zap2it. It had absolutely no competition from ABC, NBC or Fox, all of which were competing more with The CW in how small of an audience each network could attract.

"Numbers" actually led the night for all networks with a 6.1/11 in the 10 p.m. hour, gaining 22 percent on top of the lead-in audience it picked up from "Moonlight." The news magazines "Dateline" and "20/20" made up the rest of the network viewing audience.

CBS, of course, easily won Friday night with a 5.6/10, well ahead of the 4.0/7 from NBC and 3.0/5 from ABC. Fox was able to manage only a 2.6/5.

Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that includes both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
