'Lost' Struggles To Hold 'Grey's' Audience

Some of "Lost's" lost audience returned from the last new episode that aired more than a month ago, but it doesn't seem that "Grey's Anatomy" and the island-based show is too good of a match.

"Lost" earned a 7.6 rating/13 share for ABC Thursday night, according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research. That finished well behind "Without a Trace" on CBS, but ahead of "ER" on NBC in the 10 p.m. hour.

That was an audience loss of nearly 29 percent in overnight ratings from "Grey's Anatomy," which won the total household battle with CBS in the 9 p.m. slot with a 10.7/16. However, that was up nearly 9 percent from the previous new episode of "Lost," which ended with just a 7.0/11, according to Zap2it.

"Lost" is still well off its season premiere. Some 20 percent of the audience vacated the show since its premiere, which at the time earned a 9.5/14.

"Lost" was a winner in adults 18 to 49, however, a key demographic, mainly retaining much of that audience from its "Grey's" lead-in.

Audiences seemed to forget that "Smallville" and "Supernatural" were airing new episodes on The WB. "Smallville" had its lowest-watched night of the season so far with a 2.1/4, while "Supernatural" was lucky to reach 1.5 percent of the nation's households.

CBS won the night with a 9.2/15. followed by the 8.1/13 from ABC. Fox was third with a 5.3/8, which NBC finished with a 4.3/7.

However, in adults 18 to 49, it was ABC on top with a 4.8, well ahead of the 4.0 pace from CBS.

ng numbers from the top urban markets that includes both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
