NBC has already forgiven David Eick for the fiasco that was "Bionic Woman" last season, and is confident that the "Battlestar Galactica" executive producer will prove that was just one stumble in what could be a very successful career with the company.
Eick will have an exclusive television contract with Universal Media Studios, the production arm of NBC Universal which owns both SciFi Channel and NBC. Not only will that give him more opportunity to work on the "Battlestar Galactica" prequel "Caprica," but it also will allow him to create and develop other products.
Eick also will take on an adventure series known as "AKA" as well as "Hart to Hart." Kerry Ehrins, most recently of "Friday Night Lights" is the writer behind "AKA" while Dario Scardapane will be attached to "Hart to Hart" as a writer.
On top of that, Eick also will be asked to do yet another adaptation of an existing property under the control of NBCU, although the title of that property has yet to be released since the studio is still working on finalizing the rights to recreate it.
Eick first hit the producing scene in 1994 with his work in the series "M.A.N.T.I.S." before moving on as a co-producer for "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" with Kevin Sorbo. He also was a producer on "American Gothic."
Eick and fellow BSG executive producer Ronald D. Moore are picking up a lot of new work from NBCU, which has made no secret that they wish to keep both men on board for as long as they can. One of Moore's next projects outside of "Caprica" is a new series through UMS called "Virtuality" that has already moved into pilot stage through Fox. He also signed a three-picture deal with United Artists to work on an unnamed science-fiction trilogy.
Eick's most recent project, "Bionic Woman," was heavily hyped by NBC, but failed to maintain its audience during its strike-shortened season, and never returned to production in Vancouver, B.C. following the end of the Writers Guild of America work stoppage.
