Whether it's from the fans or from the writers, "Battlestar Galactica" star Katee Sackhoff says she's ready for just about anything, and told Crave Online that she's already preparing for the worst to hit Starbuck as the SciFi Channel series draws to a close.
"Well, I think if 'Battlestar's' any indication at all, in the last four [episodes], I think everyone's going to be very shocked for sure," Sackhoff said. "I think they're probably going to ruffle a few feathers very well, and I don't think that there's any way to make everyone happy."
Sackhoff said she has asked executive producer Ronald D. Moore from the very beginning to not close the series where everything is wrapped up in a neat box.
"And he would never do that because that's not real," she said. "'Battlestar' has always been based on reality, and so I think that he will give it an ending that is fitting of that, and make it not pretty."
Sackhoff recently got to work with Moore as a director rather than the showrunner, and said she was impressed with the one scene she did with him.
"I've got to say he's the first director I've ever worked with that after every take, he says thank you," she said. "I noticed that because I think what the crew does, what an actor does, at times can be overlooked because it's what we're supposed to do. And to have someone thank you after every take is very interesting. I found that after a take, I stood a litle taller, I was a little happer, and I was like, 'Wow! That must have been really good!"
It's still not clear if Starbuck is a Cylon or not, and not many answers were given in last Friday's Season 4 premiere. But Sackhoff would be OK if she was.
"I think the reason the four actors were upset about being Cylons is that I think you play for years making choices as a character and then to realize all those choices you made would have been different had you known," Sackhoff said. "It's interesting. It's kind of like you get the wool pulled over your eyes for four years and then, lo and behold, your character's something completely different.
"But I would be completely indifferent. I have love for this character and I think we all do as far as everyone for their character on the show, but they were pretty angry. I still think Michael Hogan [Saul Tigh] hasn't come to terms with it. I don't think he's ready to accept it yet."
A lot of talk has focused on the clues that can be found in a "Last Supper"-style photograph of the "Battlestar Galactica" cast that first appeared in Entertainment Weekly. Even supervising producer David Weddle told Airlock Alpha last week that there are a lot of clues to be found in the picture, and that all the answers are right there.
If there is a Battlestar Code, Sackhoff says she has yet to find it.
"It's interesting that everyone thinks there's something hidden in that Last Supper photo like if you look hard enough, you can find there's hidden messages in it," she said. "To be honest, I think we would have had to have been in on it to create a hidden message, and we were all just there having a photo shoot. So, I mean, it is interesting the way people are standing for sure. I mean, the plastic sheath with Anders is interesting, so I don't know. And the fact that they made Tricia [Helfer] the messiah is pretty interesting, too. I wish I knew what they were thinking."
Even if the photo wasn't planned ahead of time, Weddle told Airlock Alpha that the writers like to take random things found in previous episodes and turn them into major story or character building points, including the mandala Sackhoff painted on the wall of her apartment set for Season 2's "Valley of Darkness" that later played prominently into later episodes, including "Maelstrom" where Starbuck was thought to have died.
With "Bionic Woman" already over on NBC, and things coming to a close for "Battlestar Galactica," what is next for Katee Sackhoff?
"I think that I've reluctantly turned into the go-to tough girl in the business, and I'm ready to do a job that requires no blood and guts and ghosts or anything," she said. "So a nice little romantic comedy with James McAvoy would be fantastic."
