NBC is hoping to avoid the mistakes made with the cancelled "Bionic Woman" to ensure the upcoming reboot series "Knight Rider" has a better chance of succeeding.

Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC, admitted that the rush to get "Bionic Woman" on air ultimately hurt it. After the success of the backdoor pilot in February, the network chose to take its time working on the "Knight Rider" series.

"We saw it with 'Terminator [The Sarah Connor Chronicles],' and we saw it with 'Bionic Woman.' Big openings, big branded titles, draw open the tent, and the show didn't deliver on that $10 million pilot," Silverman said this week during the network's upfront presentation in New York. "What we're doing with 'Knight Rider' is we consciously delivered it on air so that we had nine months to make sure that series is great."

Gary Scott Thompson ("Las Vegas") has been hired as the "Knight Rider" show runner. In addition to his experience as a show runner, Thompson wrote the script for "The Fast and the Furious" and the story for "Hollow Man."

In addition to bringing on Thompson, Silverman said "We're hiring a staff. We're hiring the cast. We're honing the writing crew. And we're ensuring that the show lives up to the audience's expectation. The audience turned on and tuned into the two-hour movie premiere. Now we need to make sure they come in week in and week out, and for that we've got to take a rigorous approach."

"Knight Rider" is slated to premiere on NBC in the fall and will air Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET
