Considered one of the most prestigious awards science-fiction writers can be nominated for, the World Science Fiction Society has released its nominees for the 2008 Hugo Awards, which includes entries from the world of cinema, television and even the Internet.

The entire first season of "Heroes" is up for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form, from NBC Universal Television and Tailwind Productions. The long list of writers and directors included in the nomination list include Tim Kring, Jeff Loeb, Bryan Fuller, Michael Green, Natalie Chaidez, Jesse Alexander, Adam Armus, Aron Eli Coletie, Joe Pokaski, Christopher Zatta, Chuck Kim, David Semel, Allan Arkush, Greg Beeman, Ernest R. Dickerson, Paul Shapiro, Donna Deitch, Paul A. Edwards, John Badham, Terrence O'Hara, Jeannot Szwarc, Roxann Dawson, Kevin Bray and Adam Kane.

"Heroes" will go against "Enchanted" from Walt Disney Pictures which was written by Bill Kelly and directed by Kevin Lima as well as "The Golden Compass" from New Line Cinema that was written by Chris Weitz based on the novel by Phillip Pullman and directed by Chris Weitz.

Also being nominated in the long form category is "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" from Warner Bros. Pictures that was written by Michael Goldenberg based on the book by J.K. Rowling and directed by David Yates as well as "Stardust" from Paramount Pictures that was written by Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn based on the book by Neil Gaiman, and directed by Vaughn.

Several genre favorites were included in the Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form category including the "Battlestar Galactica" episode "Razor" that was written by Michael Taylor and directed by Felix Enriquez Alcala and Wayne Rose for SciFi Channel.

It will compete with two episodes of "Doctor Who" on BBC including "Blink" that was written by Stephen Moffat and directed by Hettie Macdonald, and "Human Nature"/"Family of Blood" written by Paul Cornell and directed by Charles Palmer.

Also up for short form is the "Star Trek: New Voyages" episode "World Enough and Time" written by Michael Reaves and Marc Scott Zicree and directed by Zicree, which is available through Cawley Entertainment Co. and The Magic Time Co.

Finally, "Torchwood" -- the spinoff of "Doctor Who" -- has jumped into the action with "Captain Jack Harkness" that was written by Catherine Tregenna and directed by Ashley Way for BBC Wales.

The awards will be handed out Aug. 9 at Denvention 3, also known as the 66th World Science Fiction Convention that will be held in Denver.
