You will soon see Anton Yelchin ("Hearts in Atlantis") playing a man from the future, Pavel Chekov in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek." But according to The Hollywood Reporter, Yelchin is in negotiations to play another man from the future, this time the post-apocalyptic warrior Kyle Reese in McG's upcoming Terminator film, previously known as "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins."

In the film Yelchin plays Reese, the future father of the world savior John Connor. Reese befriends a Terminator named Marcus (Sam Worthington). Marcus is an earlier model of the Terminator that Arnold Schwarzenegger played in the previous films.

Christian Bale ("Batman Begins") is signed on as John Connor, who is now in his 30s and combating the machines to save humanity from extinction.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nick Stahl and Claire Danes are not returning for the sequel.

"Terminator Salvation" is written by David Campbell Wilson ("Supernova"), John Brancato ("Terminator 3") and Michael Ferris ("Terminator 3"); McG is directing. Paul Haggis ("Crash") is in talks to rewrite the script.

Shooting is expected to start on May 2008 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins" is scheduled by Warner Bros. for a Summer 2009 release.
