'X-Files 2' To Be Scary, Romantic

With "X-Files 2" movie premiering in five months, creator Chris Carter and producer/writer Frank Spotnitz spoke about what to expect of the movie at WonderCon over the weekend.

"This movie takes some of the most, I think, essential themes of ?The X-Files? and incorporates them and puts them to the test," Carter said, according to SciFi Wire. "I think that for me, so much of ?The X-Files? was about skepticism, but it was also about faith, and I think that plays a big part of this movie."

Even with rumors that someone spotted a werewolf?s head on the set, neither would divulge much about the plot for the upcoming film. Spotnitz, said that the sequel will be "a stand-alone, scary movie. Scary, exciting movie. But it's also very much about these characters, very personal. A romantic, I think, emotional story."

A clip from the movie was unveiled at WonderCon, showing a character played by Billy Connolly. Actress Amanda Peet, plays an FBI special agent who goes missing.

The television series, which ran for nine seasons, ended in May, 2002. The story picks up six years after the incidents in the final episode, "The Truth."

"The truth is, after all that time, Mulder and Scully were different people, and we were different people, so the X-Files we came up with five years ago is still the X-Files in the movie, but their personal lives -- the state of their relationship, all those things--have changed over time, and that was kind of interesting," Spotnitz said.

According to E! Online, Carter also asserted that no one is ever really dead in ?The X-Files,? so we may very well see characters like The Lone Gunmen or Cigarette-Smoking Man appear in the film. Speculation is that Skinner may also appear, though Mitch Pileggi does not appear on the official cast list so far.

?The X-Files? second movie is in production, with planned July 25 release.
