'Sarah Connor,' 'Dexter' Ratings Down
If the 1 million household drop in "Dexter's" audience could be blamed on the broadcast of the Oscars Sunday night, maybe Monday's iffy performance of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" can be blamed on Oscar hangover.
The Terminator series was hit hard by an ABC telemovie, "A Raisin in the Sun" as well as a quirky game show on NBC to finish with a 4.5 rating/7 share Monday according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research, its lowest rating of the season to date. "Raisin" earned a 9.0/14 to give ABC a win in the hour. Comedies on CBS came in second with an average of 6.8/7. "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad" earned third place in the hour with an estimated 4.6/7.
"Dexter" earned a 4.2/7 according to Zap2it, which is down 19 percent from its premiere the week before. However, it had a lot more competition this time around including the Oscars, which earned a 16.3/26 for ABC. "Dexter" did do better than a "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" rerun on NBC, which earned a 3.4/5.
Fox finished in fourth place Monday night with a 4.9/7 helped in part by a stronger showing from "The Moment of Truth," which lost more than 15 percent of its audience by the time "Sarah Connor" aired. ABC finished first with an 8.6/14, followed by NBC (6.2/10) and CBS (5.5/9).
Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that includes both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
