'American Idol' Gives 'Lost' Strong Audience Run
A little bit of results from "American Idol" shook up ABC's lineup a little bit, but only slowed "Lost" as it once again won its 9 p.m. timeslot against an energized game show on Fox.
"Lost" earned a 7.7 rating/12 share according to Fast National Ratings from Nielsen Media Research, down from last week's 8.1/13, but enough to finish ahead of a rerun of "CSI" on CBS and "Don't Forget the Lyrics" on Fox. "Lost" also captured the coveted adults 18 to 49 audience for the hour, and was finishing well ahead of the pace of "The Celebrity Apprentice" on NBC, which earned a 5.2/8, according to Zap2it, and "Supernatural" on The CW, which earned a 2.0/3.
That was enough to continue "Lost's" current reign as the network's top genre show for yet another week, finishing well ahead of "Dexter" on CBS and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" on Fox.
Because it chose to fill the 9 p.m. timeslot with a low-rated rerun of the previous week's "Lost," ABC ended up finishing in third with a 5.3/8, well behind the 10.3/16 from Fox and 7.7/12 from CBS.
Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that includes both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
