James Cameron might not be having any direct involvement in the future of the movie series he created, but that hasn?t stopped him nudging "Terminator Salvation" in a few directions.

According to the trade paper Variety, Australian actor Sam Worthington has been given a part in the opening installment of the new franchise, "The Future Begins." Why? Because Cameron himself recommended him for the role of a key figure in the resistance against Skynet after working with him on his latest epic, "Avatar."

McG is helming the new trilogy, however the director is consulting with the father of the franchise in order to keep the new movies on the right track. The previous films all feature the Connor family on the run after a Terminator is sent back in time to stop the resistance against the machines from being formed. In the new movie series though, much of the world is destroyed after SkyNet declares war on Humanity and a nuclear holocaust is unleashed.

There is no word as of yet who has been selected to play the key Terminator for the movie, however McG has previously hinted that Josh Brolin may be the man for the job, saying only that "Brolin is a very exciting actor."

"Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins" is slated for a Summer 2009 release.
