'Andromeda' dumps theme song

Something some fans have been begging for since the series premiere ...

Canada got the first look of the new "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda" this week as the second season premiere, "The Widening Gyre," debuted on Global.

The biggest change, according to SlipstreamWeb fans who wrote in, is that there is now a new opening credits theme ... and a monologue.

"He is the last guardian of a fallen civilization, a hero from another time. Faced with a universe in chaos, Dylan Hunt recruits an unlikely crew and sets out to reunite the galaxies. On the Starship Andromeda ... hope lives again."

Doktor's Diary reviewed the premiere, saying that "this episode doesn't waste more than a couple of minutes with a precis to bring us all up to speed on last season's cliffhanger. The immediate difficulties are solved in a fairly satisfactory manner, i.e. getting everybody back alive and getting away, while the ultimate failure of the Nova bomb preserves the main bad guy and gives urgency to Dylan's ongoing Commonwealth initiative."

The premiere is scheduled to air in U.S. syndicated markets beginning the first week in October, after it airs in the United Kingdom on Sky One Oct. 2.
