Joshua is not a lost puppy

The new 'Dark Angel' character has some surprises in store for fans this season

"Dark Angel" fans will not only enjoy the new personality that Kevin Durand's character of Joshua will provide to the Fox show when it premieres Friday night ... but he seems to have an interesting heritage as well.

"He's got a little bit of the canine in his genetic cocktail," Durand told Sci-Fi Wire. "He was basically thrown in the basement at Manticore once they realized that he was not completely human-looking."

Durand describes his character as being less involved than Jessica Alba's Max.

"She's the evolution of me. They made a lot of improvements, and the final results came out looking like Jessica Alba," he said. "Joshua, on the other hand, definitely exhibits the canine side. The beast features are subtle, but they're definitely there."

Joshua will apparently befriend Max, and will move with her to Seattle. While there have been some unconfirmed reports of a romance between the two characters, nothing has been set in stone on how their relationship will unfold.

Durand also talked about his recent guest role on "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda," for the episode "The Sum of Its Parts."

"'Andromeda' was a good experience, too. Kevin (Sorbo, Capt. Dylan Hunt) was great and supportive. I was incredibly uncomfortable in my costume, but they got the look they wanted."
