This story contains MINOR SPOILERS for "Star Trek XI."
Zachary Quinto seems to be all fired up about playing the world's most famous Vulcan on the silver screen ... but something just doesn't seem to be adding up.
Some more spy pictures have leaked from the filming of "Star Trek XI" in California, featuring the "Heroes" star as a much younger Spock. However, it's hard to look at the pictures and not think: Is Quinto playing a Vulcan ... or a Romulan?
The latest photos shows Quinto talking with director J.J. Abrams, wearing a white turtleneck and a very gray (but elaborate) sweater. While it would be difficult to know what kind of changes Abrams is making to the new Star Trek, it would appear by some accounts that the design of Quinto's clothing could be best described as Romulan.
Some questions do come to mind. Will the younger Spock have to blend in with Romulans? We know the older Spock -- played by Leonard Nimoy -- was left on Romulus in the timeline of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," which could be how Spock learns of the Romulan plans to disrupt the timeline.
However, at the same time, it's hard not to wonder if a fast one is being pulled on fans, or if Abrams maybe is getting a little confused between the pointed-eared races.
"Star Trek XI" premieres Dec. 25, 2008.
