Carlton Cuse Crosses Lines, Actors Suspended

Here's a difficult choice: Support your union, or support your fans.

When it comes to finishing up episodes of "Lost" in the post-production process, Carlton Cuse decided to choose the fans in this case, crossing Writers Guild of America strike picket lines to make sure that if ABC does indeed begin to air new episodes of "Lost" early next year, the episodes will be completed.

"We feel we owe that to our fans," Cuse told the New York Times. "We would harm our franchise if we didn't do it ourselves."

Cuse not only is a writer who is striking on behalf of the WGA, but he also is a producer on the series, which kind of gives him multiple hats and split loyalties. For the long haul, however, Cuse has made it clear that he is in total support of the strike, and if there wasn't a chance that ABC would air the filmed episodes of the fourth season, he wouldn't even be back to work.

In the meantime, production is about to shut down on "Bionic Woman" and "Battlestar Galactica," which share production facilities in Vancouver, B.C. In response, Universal Media Studios is suspending actors on "Bionic Woman" as well as "The Office" and "30 Rock." The suspension means they will only get half of their paychecks for the next five weeks, according to TV Guide.

The action came soon after the Screen Actors Guild was angered by a move from Fox Domestic Television suspending its actors on shows such as "'Til Death" and "Rules of Engagement" to an unpaid hiatus status.

SAG officials say studios can still put series regulars on hold for full salary or even terminate them, which means they would no longer be held exclusive to their contracts.

Finally, United Press International is reporting that both sides in the strike -- the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers -- is ready to go back to the bargaining table after more than two weeks without negotiations. According to news sources, the talks would resume the Monday following the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States.

A statement was issued by both sides confirming that talks would resume Nov. 26, but offered no other details.
