'Knight Rider' Pilot Finds Its Star

By MICHAEL HINMAN Nov-2-2007

When the 1980s version of "Knight Rider" needed a star, it looked to the soap opera "The Young & The Restless" to find David Hasselhoff.

Producers of the new "Knight Rider" apparently decided to do the same thing, picking up "All My Children" actor Justin Bruening to star in their backdoor pilot for NBC, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bruening, who also has had guest star stints on shows such as "Cold Case" and "3 lbs," will play the son of Michael Knight, the character Hasselhoff played in the 1980s version plus a few telemovies in the 1990s. Whether or not "Knight Rider" will prove to be a breakout role for Bruening as it was for Hasselhoff has yet to be seen. Remakes didn't do well this past season so far, as "Bionic Woman" is only pulling in part of the audience the network had expected it to earn.

The new "Knight Rider" is being produced as a telemovie and as a backdoor pilot for a possible series. It is being executive producer by Doug Liman and Dave Bartis for Universal Media Studios and Dutch Oven Productions. Steve Shill will direct the pilot.
