The End Is Near For 'Battlestar' Character

This story contains possible MAJOR SPOILERS for the fourth and final season of "Battlestar Galactica."

Many fans are concentrated on who is the 12th and final Cylon. But what fans are forgetting about, or simply finding it too painful to think about, is a certain prophecy that one of the show's beloved main characters will not make it to the end.

President Laura Roslin, diagnosed with breast cancer from the moment we first meet her, is not expected to make it to Earth, just as Moses never had a chance to set foot in the Promised Land. A leader whose life will be snuffed away as soon as her work is done. Or is it?

Mary McDonnell, the Oscar-nominated actress who plays one of several strong female characters on the show, visited her daughter Olivia at Brandeis University this past weekend, sharing with those who joined her that the days of Roslin's leadership are vastly numbered.

"On Sunday, we [were] all hanging out in Liv's dorm, Mary told us that he only has three episodes left to film for BSG and is sad to say good-bye to Laura," one student told Airlock Alpha.

McDonnell was apparently on campus to watch her daughter in the Threepenny Opera, and then spent some time at dinner and later in her dorm room with 15 other people. The actress would let very little loose on what would happen in the fourth and final season of the SciFi Channel show, and didn't even know there was a new trailer available featuring her firing a gun.

When asked who she was shooting at, McDonnell said nothing ... when asked if it was Katee Sackhoff's character of Starbuck, she reportedly laughed.

If McDonnell does only have three episodes left, that means her character could be dead just after mid-season. Eight episodes were already in the can, one fan said, plus the two-hour Razor movie, which means Laura Roslin could make her exit to kick off the second half of the season.

Of course, none of this has been confirmed by SciFi Channel or anyone with "Battlestar Galactica," so treat it as you would any rumor.

"Battlestar Galactica" returns with the "Razor" telemovie Nov. 24, and with the fourth and final season beginning in early 2008.
