'Moonlight' Continues To Scare Up Audiences

It looks like "Moonlight" is going to be sticking around CBS, at least for the time being.

The vampire series earned a 5.4 rating/10 share on Friday night, according to Fast National Ratings from Nielsen Media Research, keeping a vast majority of its audience once again from its lead-in, "Ghost Whisperer," and helping CBS to a Friday night win.

"Moonlight's" second episode finished well ahead of the season premiere of "Friday Night Lights" on NBC, which had a 4.2/7, according to Zap2it, as well as a repeat of "Private Practice" on ABC and a second hour of "Smackdown!" on The CW.

"Moonlight's" ratings are down slightly from its series premiere last week, and has been experiencing strong word-of-mouth promotion as well as continued strong promotion on CBS. It was, however, the lowest-rated show on CBS Friday night, but "Ghost Whisperer" clocked in with a 5.6/10 and "Numb3rs" had a 6.2/11, so it stayed on pace with its lead-in and lead-out shows.

CBS sucked away all the viewers from the other networks, scoring a win with a 5.7/10. NBC was second with a 4.9/9, ABC had a 3.8/7 and Fox barely beat The CW with a 2.7/5.

Fast Nationals usually provide a snapshot of what Americans are watching by pulling numbers from the top urban markets that includes both live viewing and same-day timeshifted viewing. A rating point generally represents more than 1.1 million households while the share indicates the percentage of televisions turned on that was tuned to the specific program. These numbers typically shift when final ratings are issued.
