What's The Most Expensive Genre Show?
How much are advertisers willing to spend for 30 seconds of commercial time for your favorite shows? You might be surprised.
A new report by Bill Gorman of TV By The Numbers shows that when it comes to buying commercial time, it's no surprise that "Heroes" is their favorite genre program.
According to the report, NBC is charging $330,000 per 30-second ad. That's sixth out of more than 40 programs tracked by the Web site, just behind the two broadcasts of "American Idol" on Fox, "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" on ABC, and "Sunday Night Football" on NBC.
"Heroes" ads are about $30,000 per 30-second spot more than "24" and "The Simpsons" on Fox, and $40,000 more than "CSI" on CBS and "House" on Fox.
But it's not the only genre show in the mix. "Bionic Woman" on NBC is in the top 20 despite being a brand new show, commanding as much as $185,000 per 30-second spot. Surprisingly, it's behind "K-ville" on Fox, which isn't expected to last too much longer, as well as more understandable shows like "My Name Is Earl" and "The Office" on NBC as well as "Survivor" on CBS.
"Journeyman" is just ahead of "Big Bang Theory" on CBS with $165,000 per 30-second spot. While "Chuck" on NBC edged out "Pushing Daisies" on ABC with $125,000 and $115,000 respectively.
Other ad numbers available includes "Moonlight" on CBS with $104,000 per 30-second spot, "Smallville" on The CW at $97,000, and "Reaper" on The CW at $85,000.
