Abrams Hones In On Capt. Kirk
Will there finally be a Capt. James T. Kirk after all?
IESB is reporting that J.J. Abrams and company are nearing what is being described as an exhausting and excruciating search to cast one of the key roles in the upcoming "Star Trek XI" film, and appear to be looking to finalize a deal with actor Mike Vogel.
The 28-year-old actor, who already is appearing in Abrams' upcoming 2008 untitled movie project rumored to be called "Cloverfield" among other names, is said to be the "forerunner of the coveted role."
Gersh Agency, which represents Vogel, told IESB that they couldn't confirm the report, but apparently did ask "nervously" where they had heard the report.
If Vogel does come aboard, he will join Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin and Leonard Nimoy, who are already signed to play the roles of Spock, Uhura, Chekov, and ... er, Spock.
Of course, none of this has been confirmed by Paramount Pictures or anyone else, so please treat this as any rumor should be treated.
"Star Trek XI" is expected to premiere Dec. 25, 2008.
