The Joker Takes Control Of Gotham

This story contains MODERATE SPOILERS of the upcoming Batman sequel film "The Dark Knight."

The rise of Gary Oldman's character from a simple police lieutenant to the commissioner of police seems to have a lot to do with the fact that he's a hero much like Batman himself.

The Mania Web site received a spoiler report from an extra on the Chicago set of the Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" that takes place in an outdoor funeral of what is believed to be the police commissioner.

No, it doesn't seem to be the same police commissioner Loeb played by Colin McFarlane as the man being honored is white, the source said.

"As we filmed the processional, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, some guy from 'Lost' playing the mayor and Gary Oldman were on hand for the scene," the source said. "Gary was 'policing' the street during the professional and walked right in front of me, talking to police on his walkie talkie.

"When we got to the end of the street ... we listened to a speech by the mayor and a gun salute began. There were tons of real and fake cops dressed as cops in the parade paying tribute to yes, one of their own, the commissioner. As the gun salute began, one shot, two shots, and just before three, the guns turn on the mayor, and bam! Shots ring out, shooting at the mayor on the stage as Gary Oldman dives to save the mayor."

Among the people in the crowd were Heath Ledger as The Joker, who apparently had some of his henchmen among the crowd.

Of course, all of this is rumor, and should be treated as such.

"The Dark Knight" is expected to be released July 18.
