Shanks Wasn't Frigid For Stargate Movies

Michael Shanks, who played the eternal Daniel Jackson for 10 years on "Stargate SG-1" says he has little sympathy for the rest of the cast who had to shoot scenes for the upcoming "Stargate: Continuum" telemovie in the cold Arctic while he took part in that particular adventure from a soundstage.

"I wasn't [there] because I was filming '24,'" Shanks told TV Guide. "We did end up building a frozen ship and part of an Arctic flow in a frozen soundstage in Vancouver. The temperatures in there were minus 7 [19 degrees Fahrenheit) so we didn't have to act that much because it was cold. As much as everybody raved about their Arctic experience, I was happy not to go, and happy that they brought the Arctic to me."

Fans will have a lot to rave about as well with the two upcoming movies aiming to be a little more spectacular than the previous incarnations.

"We had a way bigger budget than we ever did for the series, so the action scenes will be that much better," said Shanks about working on "Stargate: The Ark of Truth," one of the two movies. "And the fans will definitely be happy with the way we wrap up the series in 'The Ark of Truth.' It reintroduces our villains that we created during the last two years, and we deal with them in a very climactic way. It's a good payoff."

"Stargate: Continuum" is an alternate timeline story, according to Shanks.

"One of our remaining villains goes back in time and changes our future so the Stargate program is out of the equation," Shanks continued. "It's up to Mitchell (Ben Browder), Carter (Amanda Tapping) and Daniel Jackson to try to put the timeline right. But the people existing in that other time don't want to change and won't let us do it."

Shanks also talked about the prospect of future Stargate movies, saying that -- as expected -- it's all up to the fans.

"The impression we got from [MGM head] Charlie Cohen was that he wanted more right away," Shanks said. "We definitely got the feeling that this was not the end of the road, which is a very positive thing for those of us who enjoy that environment so much and enjoy the company so much."

In an upcoming episode of "Eureka" on SciFi Channel, Shanks will play an artist "who works in metals, who got fired from Global Dynamics." His character sculpts "a statue of Pythagoras that mysteriously one day turns to gold from bronze," Shanks reveals. "Then other things start turning to gold and they rust, and the town starts falling apart. He's the chief suspect."

"Stargate: Continuum" and "Stargate: The Ark of Truth" are planned for release on DVD in Fall 2007. It's also possible that the movies will also be aired on SciFi Channel as well, although no schedule has been announced.

"Eureka" airs on Sci-Fi Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
