Agyeman Will Practically Be A Nun On 'Torchwood'

Jones still a 'Doctor Who' character, Davies says

Anyone who thinks that Martha Jones is going to go from a sweet doctor to a beer-guzzling sailor when she arrives at "Torchwood" next season better think again.

"You have to respect the fact that she is still a 'Doctor Who' character," said Russell T. Davies, executive producer of both series. "There is no sex or swearing with her in 'Torchwood' because there will be kids watching."

That does raise the question on whether or not everything else on the show will be greatly toned down during the episodes that actress Freema Agyeman will appear, as kids (like other people) tend to watch whole episodes, and not just the parts where a "Doctor Who" companion shows up.

Agyeman made the move to "Torchwood" after producers decided to go with a different full-time companion. Catherine Tate, who appeared in the second Christmas special, will reprise her character of Donna in the fourth season.

Agyeman will appear in a handful of "Torchwood" episodes in the second season, and then will make the jump back to "Doctor Who" for the fourth season. After this run, reports are that Agyeman's contract will not be renewed.

"It's fine for Torchwood's Gwen to be doing it," Davies said about the cussing and the sex. "But we sat there with a script and were literally taking swear words out of Martha's lines."
