‘Doctor Who’ Trades Celebrities For Politicians

Producers want former Prime Minister Tony Blair for cameo

The following story contains MODERATE SPOILERS for the end of the third season of "Doctor Who."

It’s no secret that the BBC has been trying to bring a little bit of that Hollywood dazzle to the very British series “Doctor Who” with reports of Britney Spears and Dennis Hopper already in the crosshairs of Russell T. Davies’ creative team. However, a recent media buzz suggest that the next celebrity being targeted is a little closer to home.

According to the Daily Express, Davies has an idea in place to bring former British Prime Minister Tony Blair into the series at some point in the show's fourth season, which is currently in pre-production in Wales.

"Everyone knows Blair did ‘The Simpsons’” a source told the newspaper. “And has appeared with Catherine Tate who is the new companion for The Doctor. So we're sure he'd be more than open to the offer of a cameo on the show.”

For the upcoming Christmas special “Voyage of the Damned,” actress-turned pop-sensation Kylie Minogue will step onboard the Tardis as the festive companion before Catherine Tate makes her return for the fourth season next year. Speculation on the Internet suggests that Kylie’s role is the very same one that Davies previously had in mind for Spears, who apparently turned down the opportunity.

Meanwhile, the rumors pertaining to Dennis Hopper’s role on the show allege that the actor, who is a fan of the series, is in talks to appear as a villain during Season 4. The only thing apparently standing in the way of Hopper walking onto the set is his grueling schedule which keeps him relatively busy.

This year “Doctor Who” has been hit exceptionally bad by the British tabloids, with stories running about David Tennant departing the series, Freema Agyeman being sacked by the BBC and eventually the cancellation of the series. The BBC quickly quashed all rumors and set the record straight, however thus far no comment has been made on the validity of the Daily Express claims.

"Doctor Who" is currently airing its third season to American audiences on SciFi Channel. The fourth season will premiere on BBC One next spring.
