The following story contains possible MAJOR SPOILERS for the fourth season of "Doctor Who."
Life never stays the same for "Doctor Who," something fans have experienced for more than four decades. But the show might face some of its biggest tests over the next couple of years, that is if British media reports are right about some of the things they are reporting.
Britain's Daily Mirror is reporting that although Freema Agyeman will not be walking away from the show with the Martha Jones companion at the start of the fourth season, her character will get a seriously reduced role in the upcoming season with the introduction of a new companion and Martha's highly-noticed non-inclusion in this year's Christmas special.
"Martha will still be in 'Doctor Who,' but her relationship with The Doctor will have changed," a source tells the newspaper. "The truth is that she loves him, be he doesn't feel the same way. She is going to have to share him because he'll be getting a different sidekick. And this is a major addition to the cast."
It is unclear who exactly will be The Doctor's new companion, but there is some buzz that it might actually be a male this time around.
Agyeman, in the meantime, will have a reduced role in the fourth season of "Doctor Who," but she also could make an appearance on the show's spinoff "Torchwood," which airs on BBC Two. Singer Kylie Minogue will be assisting The Doctor in the Christmas special, continuing a tradition of guest companions that started last year with comedienne Catherine Tate.
While that might be the extent of changes for Season 4, it's Season 5 that fans (and even the BBC) have to worry about. The Mirror also is continuing reports that both executive producer Russell T. Davies and series star David Tennant will be gone by the end of the fourth season, forcing the network to make some serious changes not only to who runs the Tardis, but also who runs the series.
Even with the departures, the brass at BBC have made it clear that "Doctor Who" will continue after the fourth season, and continue to survive changes as it did for its first 30 years of existence.
