James Marsters, who fans best know as Spike, the lovesick punk vampire with stock in peroxide on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," is currently in Cardiff filming for the second season of the "Doctor Who" spinoff "Torchwood."

According to his official Web site, Marsters will be a guest star alongside John Barrowman in the BBC Two series, which is set to start its second season later this year.

When last seen on television, Marsters was cast as Professor Milton Fine, better known as Brainiac, on The CW's "Smallville." He will soon star opposite Hillary Swank and Gerard Butler in the romantic comedy "P.S., I Love You," which will be in American movie theaters this December. He also has done voice work as Lex Luthor for the straight-to-DVD animated movie "Superman: Doomsday," due for release in September.

"Torchwood," an anagram of "Doctor Who," was created by Russell T. Davies, who also is the mastermind behind the current "Doctor Who" series. Torchwood is a secret task force that deals with extra-terrestrial and supernatural occurrences. John Barrowman plays enigmatic omnisexual time agent Capt. Jack Harkness, who leads the Cardiff-based team.

The episode is slated be broadcast in the United Kingdom in early 2008.

Biewers in the United States, however, are still waiting for the first season of "Torchwood" to premiere on BBC America later this fall.
