Trying to fill out its summer schedule with new programming it didn't deem fit for the fall schedule, ABC is set to finally premiere "Masters of Science Fiction," more than a year after six episodes were completed.
But while fans of the series, from the same produces of Showtime's "Masters of Horror," are celebrating the move, they also are disappointed that the network plans to air just four of the episodes, without indicating which ones got the ax.
Also going against any decent future for the series is the fact that ABC has planned to air the show Saturdays at 10 p.m. ET, which is a slot so dead even the Cryptkeeper has stayed away.
The series was meant to be an anthology adaptation of some of the era's best science-fiction writers including Robert Heinlein, Harlan Ellison and Walter Mosley, according to Zap2it. They starred some big names including Terry O'Quinn from "Lost," Anne Heche, Sam Waterston and "Heroes'" Malcolm McDowell.
Get those DVRs rolling because the series makes its debut Aug. 4.
