Ticking clock for Commonwealth
Robert Hewitt Wolfe said a sense of urgency will be added this season to 'Andromeda'
Forming a new commonwealth no longer will be a walk on the beach for Capt. Dylan Hunt (Kevin Sorbo).
Robert Hewitt Wolfe, executive producer of "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda," recently told Dreamwatch magazine that some situations are going to be written into the second season of the show that will put a time clock on getting a commonwealth formed.
"We have a new driving threat that adds urgency to Dylan's mission," Wolfe said. "It adds a level of immediacy. It's not like it is, 'Oh yeah, the Commonwealth is a nice idea ... ' and it takes a couple of decades to pull it together. We've added a clock that will add an increased level of tension to the mission."
There will be a mixture of standalone and story arc episodes in the new season, Wolfe added, that will hold existing fans while at the same time try to attract new fans to the show.
"We're trying to keep some fun romps as well as some intense stories," he said. "We have standalones as well as episodes that draw on the continuity. We're trying to keep a mix of stories, (and) we're starting to do that more, particularly in the back 12 episodes."
And while Wolfe frequents different fan message boards, he said he isn't always going to cater to the fan first.
"The truth of the matter for me is we're artists and we're trying to trust our own instincts and opinions foremost," he said. "That's not to say that if someone says something interesting that I'm not gonig to pay attention to it."
