Although it had strong reviews and a not-so-terrible following, CBS decided that it had enough of the post-nuclear war series "Jericho," pulling the plug on the show after just a single season.

In fact, CBS seems to be veering away from a lot of dramatic television, possibly out of fear of a writers strike later this year, and has put most of its dollars into reality television.

But the network does have one genre series in its sights, and it's something officials feel will take a bite out of its competition on Friday nights.

"Moonlight" stars Alex O'Loughlin as an undead private investigator named Mick St. John, who instead of feeding on the living, decides to use his vampire abilities to help people, TV Guide reports. It's a series produced by Joel Silver (of The Matrix movies), who apparently forgot how well "Blade: The Series" did on cable.

According to details released by the network, St. John was bitten 60 years before by his new bride Coraline played by Amber Valletta.

To complicate matters now, St. John has fallen for a mortal, and in a "Dexter" sort of way, is trying to hide his true self from her.

"Moonlight" has been given a chance to succeed, sandwiched into the 9 p.m. ET time slot with "Ghost Whisperer" and "Numbers." It will face the new ABC series "Women's Murder Club" and NBC's "Las Vegas."

It joins a number of genre shows that networks have picked up over the past week including "Bionic Woman" and "Journeyman" on NBC, and "Pushing Daisies" on ABC.
