Next movie ... Voyager?
Richard Arnold makes the claim at a recent Minnesota convention
The following report could mean one of three things ... either Richard Arnold has finally fallen off the rocker, he's really out of the "Star Trek" loop ... or Paramount is crazy.
Arnold, a former associate of "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry, told fans at last weekend's Creation Entertainment convention in Minneapolis that when the crew of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" hang up their comm badges following "Star Trek X," the valiant but little-watched crew of "Star Trek: Voyager" will be taking over.
According to the report filed by the Star Trek Galactic Newsletter's Brian Meskimen, both Arnold and TNG series star Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) both stated that "Star Trek X" is mostly like the final movie featuring the TNG cast. Arnold also went as far to say that the next set of features would include the cast of Voyager, since the castmembers of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" have seemingly expressed "disinterest" in reuniting to make a movie.
This goes against non-confirmed source reports that have been coming in to different sites, including Airlock Alpha, that state a slightly different story. Some details that were released about Scott Bakula's agreement to appear as Capt. Jonathan Archer in the new UPN series "Enterprise" seem to suggest something different for the next series of "Star Trek" movies, if they even happen. However, we cannot elaborate any more than that at this point.
Arnold also pointed out that Patrick Stewart (Capt. Jean-Luc Picard) and Brent Spiner (Lt. Cmdr. Data) have not signed contracts as of yet, but instead signed agreements. This seems to conflict with reports confirmed by Paramount Pictures and executive producer Rick Berman that the two have indeed signed contracts for their appearance, and not just "agreements," although Airlock Alpha will be looking to seek clarification on the matter.
