Eick, Shiban Team Up For Lifetime Miniseries

Network looks to trying to find a good thriller

Have you ever wondered what would happen if the new "Battlestar Galactica" series had become attracted to "The X-Files" and decided to have babies? Well, apparently, those babies would be found on the Lifetime network.

The cable channel dedicated to women has given the go-ahead for a new miniseries by BSG executive producer David Eick and former "X-Files" and "Star Trek: Enterprise" producer John Shiban that puts a different spin on the typical "woman disappears from husband" scenario normally found on the channel.

"The Gathering" will be two parts and produced by Sony Pictures Television, according to Elites TV. It follows the story of a doctor, Michael Foster, who is searching for his missing wife that leads him straight to ... witches.

Hey, these aren't just any old witches. These are witches living in New York.

"It's great to be in business with David Eick and John Shiban who have created a truly unique and scary event for Lifetime," said Susanne Daniels, the president of entertainment at Lifetime Entertainment Services. "The storytelling in 'The Gathering' reminds us how unpredictable and unexplainable life can truly be."

Shiban said that witches have been left in the 15th century far too long, and it was time to give it a "The Craft" kind of turn.

"We wanted to take a horror staple -- witchcraft -- and give it a dose of reality and make television that scares because it feels real, so I'm thrilled to be partnered with David and Lifetime as we try to apply the same reality ethos to the horror genre."

Shiban wrote the miniseries, and television director Bill Eagles will helm this project, which has just begun casting. No airdate has been set.
