BSG, 'Doctor Who,' 'SG-1' Get Hugo Nods

Winners selected in Japan's WorldCon '07

Winners better make sure their passport is up to date if they want to accept their trophy in person, but the World Science Fiction Society has announced its final list for its Science Fiction Achievement Award, or what is more popular known as the Hugo, and some genre favorites are included in the final list.

In terms of television shows, "Doctor Who" is getting the most attention with four nominations in the "Dramatic Presentation, Short Form" including the episodes "Army of Ghosts," "Doomsday," "Girl in the Fireplace" and "School Reunion." "Army of Ghosts" and "Doomsday" were written by showrunner Russell T. Davies, while "Girl in the Fireplace" was penned by Steven Moffat and "School Reunion" was written by Toby Whithouse.

"Battlestar Galactica" also made the cut with its popular second-season episode "Downloaded," written by Bradley Thompson and David Weddle while "Stargate: SG-1" got in on the game with its 10th season episode "200" written by a whole host of scribes including Brad Wright, Robert C. Cooper, Joseph Mallozzi, Paul Mullie, Carl Binder, Martin Gero and Alan McCullough.

For the "SG-1" crew, this is the first Hugo nomination for all of them, as with all the other genre nominees.

The society also released its nominees for "Dramatic Presentation, Long Form" which included the films "Children of Men," "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," "The Prestige," "A Scanner Darkly" and "V for Vendetta."

Awards will be handed out the weekend of Aug. 30 in Yokohama, Japan, which is hosting the 65th Worldcon. For a complete list of nominees, check out the SciFi Wire original report by clicking here.
