Win Cash By Stepping Into The Genre
Online genre magazine offers cash prize in photo contest
Ever walked over someplace where you know was steeped in genre history? What about driving past a place that looks so creepy you thought youd entered a horror movie?
If so, now you have the chance of making some money out of it : and whats more, its all for a good cause.
The science-fiction and fantasy online travel magazine The Genre Traveler is holding a competition for readers to submit photographs of those very locations with the promise of a cash prize plus a few extra bonuses such as seeing your work printed. The site is founded by Carma Spence-Pothitt, a special assignment reporter with Airlock Alpha and its soon-to-be-launched sister site, Rabid Doll.
The requirements are relatively simple: All that is required is for entrants to take a photograph of a location which has some kind of genre significance, for example a science-fiction themed attraction or a really creepy place that looks like something out of a horror movie, and then submit it.
The winner of the competition is promised a cash prize, in the form of 10 percent of all money raised from the contest - the more that is raised, the higher the prize. In addition, the winning photo will appear in the 2008 edition of the Genre Traveler wall calendar and also will be featured on the site as long as the Traveler is in publication.
But if you dont think your photographic eye is up to the challenge, dont worry as there is also the possibility that runners up will be awarded for their efforts by having their entries included in the calendar as well.
All entries will be judged by a panel of celebrity judges made up of award winning sci-fi artist Bob Eggleton, professional photographers Paula Burr and Victor Ciccarelli, illustrator John Pelico, and art work specialist Bill Shafer. Actor, director and producer Chuck Williams also will judge entries.
