Spider-Man Swings Back Into Saturday Morning
Kids' WB! adds Web-slinger to 2008 line-up
Based on high expectations for the upcoming "Spider-Man 3" motion picture this summer, Kids' WB on the CW Network is adding "The Amazing Spider-Man" to its Saturday morning lineup in early 2008, according to a news release.
The new show will be produced by Culver Entertainment. Greg Weisman ("Gargoyles," "The Batman") will serve as supervising producer and Victor Cook ("Hellboy: Blood and Iron" and "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command") will be producer/supervising director.
"The addition of Spider-Man bolsters a lineup that has proved to be the Saturday morning destination for kids seeking action and adventure in the most amped-up ways," Kids' WB senior vice president and general manager Betsy McGowen said. "We're ecstatic to welcome Spider-Man to our popular cavalcade of superheroes."
"Our goal is to reinterpret these great characters and concepts for our millennium," Weisman said. "We'll have plenty of resonant material for the Spider-Man fan while engaging the Spider-Man novice with the same thrills we experienced when we were first exposed to the character. Our stories will appeal on multiple levels with plenty of eye-candy, action, humor and colorful characters for the youngest demographic balanced with extensive character development for 'tweens, teens and adults."
Peter Parker has spun his magic on television several times before, including the "Spider-Man" animated show that debuted in 1967; "The Amazing Spider-Man," a live-action series starring Nicholas Hammond in 1977; "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" with mutants Iceman and Firestar in 1981; a long-running Fox animated show in the '90s; and MTV's computer-generated "Spider-Man," which aired in July 2003, after the first "Spider-Man" motion picture.
"Spider-Man" will be seen along with other superheroes in the Kids' WB line-up, including "The Batman" and "Superman and The Legion of Super-Heroes," also taken from characters made famous by comic books.
In related news, a new "Spider-Man 3" trailer will air during the March 5 episode of NBC's "Heroes," which can be seen each Monday at 9 p.m. ET.
