Goyer. Also on the ballot are "Howl's Moving Castle" by Hayao Miyazaki, Cindy Davis Hewitt and Donald H. Hewitt; and the "Battlestar Galactica" episode "Unfinished Business" by Michael Taylor.
Winners in this category for previous years have included the script for "Serenity" by Joss Whedon, and the "Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy by Frances Walsh, Phillipa Boyens and Peter Jackson.
The awards, which recognize superior achievement in science-fiction and fantasy writing, are presented annually by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America. The group, founded as the Science Fiction Writers of America in 1965, has grown from 78 writers in the beginning to more than 1,400 members today including some of the biggest names in science fiction and fantasy. Winners for the 2006 awards will be announced in May.
