BSG Could Go Direct To DVD

Telefilm would not play with series continuity

Whether SciFi Channel brings "Battlestar Galactica" back for a fourth season, it appears that NBC Universal is possibly putting together another project for the critically-acclaimed series in an attempt to cash in on the DVD market.

Cinema Blend and GeekMonthly.com are reporting that the studio is considering a direct-to-DVD release of "Battlestar Galactica" that could eventually air on the SciFi Channel, and either will have a role outside of the series continuity if a fourth season is ordered, or could serve as a wrap up for the show if it is not renewed by the network, as expected, in late January.

Production for the telefilm could take place in March, although there is no script attached to it as of yet.

Of course, none of this has been confirmed by the SciFi Channel or NBC Universal, so treat it as you would any other rumor.

"Battlestar Galactica" returns Sunday, Jan. 21 at 10 p.m. ET on SciFi Channel.
