Something Big Is Coming To 'Heroes'
Jack Coleman says mid-season cliffhanger will be major
The following story contains MINOR SPOILERS for upcoming episodes of NBC's "Heroes."
He's known simply as "Mr. Bennett," or more mysteriously as "Horned-Rim Glasses," and good news for fans of NBC's "Heroes," Jack Coleman is going to be back for more, especially next week when the show broadcasts its first major cliffhanger.
"There's a mid-season cliffhanger where suddenly the story gets very big and very expansive, and yet also gets very small and very specific at the same time," Coleman told TV Guide's Illeane Rudolph. "There's big story and then there's a story that is much smaller and specific, but has large ramifications. Though it might not seem so at first ... if that makes sense."
Elements found in Monday's episode of "Heroes" will play signficantly in that episode, Coleman said, even though it will jump the show six months back in time.
"Going back illuminates so much of what you've already seen and sets the stage for so much of what lies ahead," Coleman said. "You learn a lot more about, for instance, where Niki's (Ali Larter) coming from and how her split came to be. There's a lot of light shed on how all these people came to be who they are. The episode right after that is the cliffhanger, which I don't think would be nearly as strong without setting the table the way Episode 10 does."
Coleman told TV Guide that H.R.G., as he's known as, wasn't intended to be more than just a guest star in the pilot. However, the character has expanded over the first dozen episodes and Coleman is now a series regular. Whether he is good or bad has yet to be seen, although last week's episode revealed that he doesn't appear to be the person responsible for cutting people's brains out of their heads. Although it will be slow in coming, more details will eventually come out about the "Face of Evil," Coleman said.
"I don't know when, but I can tell you that hints are starting to get dropped that there are marching orders, and there aren't a lot of clues as to where they're coming from," he said. "We're started to get the idea that H.R.G. is a cog in a larger wheel, but we have not quite learned that much more about it yet. I would say that H.R.G.'s motives may be suspect, but ultimately, I don't think he's plotting the end of the world."
