LostIs Not A Job, It Is A Lifestyle

SPOILERS: Show producers drop some hints about the upcoming third season

The following story contains MINOR SPOILERS for the upcoming third season of "Lost."

Last season, Lost finally offered some answers regarding the mystery of the island and the mysterious hatch. For the upcoming third season, co-executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have said you can expect some answers about The Others.

"You might think of season three as the mystery of who the Others are," Horowitz said in an interview.

His partner, Edward Kitsis also said: "We think we're going to blow some minds this year."

Kitsis was also keen to point out that he sees Lost as more than a job and in fact, the series has become a cornerstone in the lives of everyone involved.

"To us, 'Lost' isn't a job, he said. It's a lifestyle. It's a way of life. It's almost like we forget. You go to the newsstand, and you see it in Newsweek or in TV Guide, and you're like, 'Oh, right. It goes out.' We're just guys. We're just people that sit in a room and come up with stuff, and then it's like you forget that everyone sees it."

The producers also said they consider themselves fans of the show who, through a stroke of luck, managed to end up writing for the series. Horowitz said: "What's surprising to me is that the show can somehow still manage to be surprising, at least from our perspective."

Kitsis agreed with Horowitz, saying that the series is like a moving target that is always changing and always pushing forward when you least expect it. But the real trick of the series is writing for as many people as possible while also pleasing the die-hard fans.

"We want to write 'Lost' for as many people who want to watch it as possible," Horowitz said. "And obviously make it as accessible to as many people as possible. But also we want to reward any fan who has been there from the beginning, to sort of reward the longtime viewer in interesting and new ways."

The producers also hinted that a few of the deceased characters will be making an appearance in the third season. "Just because you're dead doesn't mean your story is over," Horowitz joked.

Lost returns to ABC on Wednesday, October 4, with the series running through the first six episodes of the season as a mini-series. Then, after Christmas the rest of the series will be shown without any reruns to ruin the meticulous plotting.
