Gene Roddenberrys Birthplace Up For Sale
Home Of Trek Legend James Doohan Also On The Market
Very few people can make the claim that someone famous once lived in their home, but for a couple of people, they will be able to boast that their home holds a part of Star Trek history. According to StarTrek.com, The birthplace of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and also the final home of James Doohan (Scotty on the Original Series) are now on the market seeking prospective buyers.
Roddenberry was born at 1907 E. Yandell Drive in El Paso, Texas, in 1921, and for the last thirty-seven years the property has been owned commercially housing a flower shop. It has previously been the centre of media attention when Gene Roddenberry Day was announced on October 4 in 2002, and the location was marked with a plaque commemorating the Great Bird of the Galaxy for his vision into star travel.
The building is now up for sale after the previous owner died and his widow wishes to sell whats left of her husbands estate in order to be closer to her grandchildren. And her son, Joe Dyoub, is committed to finding the perfect buyer for the property.
"I have always been a Star Trek fan, and wanted to reach out to the Trekkie community to determine if some loyal and secure investor might step forward before the property went on the commercial market," Dyoub said. "Many in the real estate industry that I have talked to 'don't get' Star Trek. Therefore my fear is that the future owner may not preserve this location for future generations."
Dyoub hopes that the site will be used to show the worlds appreciation of Star Trek with the development of a Trek themed café or a souvenir shop.
Meanwhile in Washington, the former home of James Doohan is also up for sale now that his wife is looking for a smaller home.
"Sarah and I have to move to a smaller location with far less overhead," Mrs. Doohan said. She also added that she has been encouraged her to push "the 'Scotty' angle" in marketing the house to ensure a relatively quick sale.
More information on the Doohan property can be obtained at johnlscott.com.
