J. Madison Wright Morris Dies At 21

Child Actress Played True Danzier In Earth 2

Early last week, only a day after returning from her honeymoon, child actress J. Madison Wright Morris died of a heart attack at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Ky. She was 21.

The actress, who many genre fans knew as True Danziger from the now-classic science-fiction series Earth 2, was given a heart transplant at the age of 15 and was married on July 8 of this year.

According to the Herald Leader, her funeral was held at Corinth Baptist Church in London, the same church she married her husband only two weeks earlier.

"She was a wonderful girl," said her grandmother.

Morris made appearances in several television shows including Grace Under Fire and The Nanny, and was eventually hand picked to join the cast of Earth 2.

"Steven Spielberg selected her to be in that," her mother said.

In 1995, the actress had a guest role on the popular medical drama ER, in which she played a sick child. The episode, entitled Hell and High Water, was later nominated for an Emmy award and was the first to feature the death of a child on the series.

"She was the first child to ever die on 'ER,'" her grandmother said. "That was one of her biggest claims to fame."

In the late 90s, Morris returned to London with her family. Shortly after their move, Morris began suffering from pneumonia and a chest x-ray revealed an enlarged heart. Diagnosed as having a condition called restrictive cardiomyopathy, she received a heart transplant in Cleveland Clinic in 2000 at the age of 15.

"She led a very full life after that," her grandmother said.

Morris graduated from college this year and was preparing to teach 10th grade English at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester this fall.

A guestbook has been set up for everyone who would like to leave a message for her family and friends, and can be found at Guestbook.
