'Buffy' spoilers faked?
Recent reports on the series false?
You might not want to write spoilers you're reading on the net in stone ... especially with new reports that recently came out regarding the validity of some of the source reports out there regarding UPN's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."
Executive producer Martin Noxon recently told Sci-Fi Wire that they've been planting bogus stories around the Web to try and discover where some of the leaks are coming from, and it has produced some interesting outcomes.
"That's the fun part, because we got sourt of savvy," he said. "There's stuff out there that's pure hokum."
While some portions of scripts have successfully appeared on the Web through casting directors and actors auditioning for roles on the show, there have been others like the death of Spike (James Marsters) last year that really caused a stir, but was just pure false.
"There's some accuracy there, luckuly not total accuracy, because that would be annoying," said Joss Whedon, Buffy creator. "But we have a lot of leaks. We've had horrible leaks on 'Angel,' and I resent it, but there's nothing I can do about it at this point. It doesn't affect what we're going to do, and enough of them are wrong that there's a safety factor. I deel so strongly about the concept of surprise being so important. This desire for insider knowledge is so overwhelming with people, and I'm not sure why."
Whedon did offer one character spoiler to Sci-Fi Wire. Amy Madison (Elizabeth Anne Allen), who was turned into a rat in Season 3, may soon be coming back in time for the show's sixth season.
Also, Noxon said that DVD editions of the show's first three seasons are in the works and could be on the market in the very near future.
"They're going to be great," he said. "They're all remastered and they have running commentary from a bunch of different people, the writer of that episode, comments on it, as well as Joss. It's a real fan thing."
