BBC To Debut Second Season of 'Doctor Who' At Easter
SPOILERS: New episodes set to start in mid-April
The following contains MINOR spoilers for the second season of "Doctor Who."British fans of "Doctor Who" will soon be seeing the second season of the Time Lord's adventures. According to Dark Horizons, the BBC has announced that it will begin airing new episodes of the show starting on Saturday April 15th, the day before Easter Sunday.
The last new "Doctor Who" adventure was the "The Christmas Invasion," which was shown by the BBC on Christmas Day, 2005. That was David Tennant's first full-length adventure in the lead role. The first season of the new "Doctor Who" starred Christopher Eccleston, who regenerated into Tennant in the season finale.
Last year Tennant also appeared as Barty Crouch Jr. in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire."
Returning in Season 2 will be the Doctor's travelling companion Rose, played by Billie Piper, but she may be finding conditions a little more cramped aboard the TARDIS. Her mother takes at least one trip in the time travelling phone booth and the Doctor allows Rose's boyfriend Mickey (played by Noel Clarke) to join their travels on a more frequent basis.
"At first I think Rose isn't that keen on the idea as she likes to keep her life separate," Piper said. "She wants The Doctor to herself because she's selfish like that. But Mickey this year really kind of comes into his own... He saves the day."
Other highlights of the second season will include an encounter with the Doctor's old adversaries the Cybermen, the return of former "Doctor Who" companion Sarah-Jane Smith, an appearance by Anthony Stewart Head ("Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and "Little Britain") and a visit to an alien world.
It is expected that the CBC in Canada will air Season 2 of "Doctor Who" after it is shown in Britain but no date had been announced at press time.
